Week 76 - Madison Tennessee

This week has been really good. We started working a lot with our members and there have already been really good results from it. We found a part member family while we were doing member visits with our first counselor in the branch presidency and she seems super promising. Her mother in law is a returning less active that really wants her family to come back strong, and so we have a return appointment with them for Saturday. We’ve just been going with all the members to get them to doing their home teaching. Weird how things progress when that gets done. Haha

Eduardo was also able to receive the priesthood this week, and he and his wife stayed for all three hours! We had a great gospel principles class with him. His wife’s the young woman’s president now so that’s going to be super good, the young women have been struggling here.

We’ve continued to work with Javier this week, and we’ve been able to bring a few members over with us now. We found out that there’s really only one thing holding him back from being baptized right now. He has his whole family back in Mexico, and because of the way he was living before, every time he talks to his wife, she just gets mad at him and it makes him feel really down. So he said that’s the only time he has a desire to drink now. So he wants to fix that situation so that he can have a much better chance of not falling after. Now that we know his holdback, we can start to focus on helping him with it.

We’ve got some conference and interviews this week, so hopefully I find out what I’ll be doing the rest of my mission. He usually knows by this point of the mission. I’m excited.

Love y’all!

Week 75 - Madison Tennessee - Seek ye the lord, not peeping wizards

“Seek ye the lord, not peeping wizards”-2 nephi 18

This week has been great. We worked with Javier a ton again. We started to do the 12 step program with him to help him with his drinking. He drank again this past Saturday, but he said it was only 2 beers, witch is amazing for where he was just a month ago. We figured out that he really likes to watch conference talks, especially about repentance and addiction recovery. So we have started sending them to him and its really helping him. We are going to start bringing more members over with us so he can have a support through this process. Side note, he asked me to set an alarm daily for him at 1030 to go to work, and I may or may not have also set a weekly one at 830 for church, whoops?:)

We also have been working with Eduardo, our recent convert. And he decided that he’s ready now for the priesthood and that next Saturday he wants to go to the temple with us. He’s going to be a superb member for this area. He is so stinking smart, it’s like teaching someone with a PhD, and he is very dedicated. He just has a little learning to go. But they are very excited. Him and his wife cant wait to be sealed next year.

We’ve been super busy this past week, because referrals have just been raining in. We got 5 last week, most of them from missionaries in other areas. But they are all pretty promising.

Love y’all!

Week 74 - Madison Tennessee

Hola mi familia!

This week has been great. With the cold weather, we had to be pretty good with who we were going to visit, otherwise we were going to be wasting a lot of time walking and busing. We were able to finally meet with Javier’s friend, Misael. And honestly based off of the first lesson, i think he might be baptized faster than Javier. I’m pretty sure they will both be close to the same time. They are both talking to each other about the things they are learning and are helping each other quit their bad habits. But they are both progressing well still. They both came to the regional conference on Sunday.

Throughout my studies this week, i was studying the atonement and Jesus Christ the whole time and i have a new look on the atonement. I really began to understand the importance and the necessity of it. It’s hard to explain, but something just clicked. I also decided to take up president Nelson’s challenge from a year ago and go through the standard works and study every scripture in the topical guide about Jesus Christ. It has been super good and i feel more confident in my teaching about christ now. I started it in a new set of scriptures that they gave me back in the mtc. If anyone wants to join in let me know and i can send you the link to the challenge.

Anyways love y’all!

Week 73 - Madison Tennessee

Hola mi familia!

This week has been great. We started working with a part member family in the last week or so and they are so awesome. The parents are both members, but they have a 9 almost 10 year old daughter who’s not baptized. We didn’t even know they were a part member family until a couple days ago when we finally got the different lists from the ward clerk. But they have said without us saying anything that they really need to get back to church and that they want to work on their daughter getting baptized. We are going over tomorrow for dinner and a family home evening. We are really excited to continue working with them.

Javier and his friend misael are doing great. Misael came to church without Javier and without us inviting him. So we set a return appointment with him so hopefully we will see some good progress with him in the next weeks. We are still working on helping Javier see he really is ready to be baptized. But we don’t want to force him into anything. But we are basically with him almost every day and he absolutely loves the Book of Mormon. So he’s still our main focus and he’s doing great.

This week I was kinda feeling like we really need to start working hard with our members, because there’s no way there will be retention with new converts here with the way things are. So we want to start strengthening and helping out members be more devoted. Elder Murdock and I have had a lot of good ideas about it and also district meeting yesterday was perfect for it. So we’re starting tonight and hope to see success from it.

Love y’all!
